WaTunes: Apple Sold 2 Million iPads In 59 Days

Source: TechCrunch

Apple has just announced that sales of its tablet computer iPad have now topped two million in less than 60 days since its launch on April 3. That’s a whole lot of iPads in under two months, and the company only started shipping units to customers in countries outside the United States last weekend.

The news comes almost a month after Apple announced that it had sold 1 million units.

As previously announced, the iPad will be available in nine more – but still unnamed – countries in July and additional countries later this year.

And they’re still clinging on to the ‘magic’ rhetoric, apparently:

“Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”

Apple in a statement said developers have created over 5,000 new apps for iPad to date.

In a week, Jobs will be front and center at Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference in San Francisco – the man’s keynote starts on Monday 7 June at 10 AM PST.

After 20 days, a YouTube video has had 75% of its total views and the average video lifespan is probably getting shorter. In 2008, it took 14 days for a video to reach 50% of its views and 44 days to hit 75%. Lesson to marketers:

WaTunes: Will MySpace Music Stay Free? It’s Up To The Labels

Source: Hypebot

At yesterday's TechCrunch Disrupt conference, MySpace co-presidents Jason Hirschhorn and Mike Jones were interviewed about the future of the struggling social networker.

image from blogs.sfweekly.comOn

falling numbers –"We have 120 million unique visitors worldwide. US numbers have been fairly flat. Page views are down… substantially by design. MySpace used to have processes that took 10 page views that should have taken 1."

How important is music? "It’s incredibly important. The pedigree of MySpace is around musicians. Free streaming access from record labels. We’re building out all sorts of tools for musicians. Dashboards, presence management."

On reports that MySpace loose $10 million monthly on free music – "That’s not correct. The model works for us. At some point, we look at all different kinds of models. There will always be free music on MySpace… We’re constantly talking to the record labels… Right now, we’re a valuable music discovery service for them.”

WaTunes: Hot Celebrity Gossip: Megan Fox fired from new movie Transformers 3 — reasons why

Source: Examiner

Hot Celebrity Gossip!

Megan Fox has been cut fromTRANSFORMERS 3 says MSNBCEntertainment News — and it appears the rumor was confirmed May 19.

While the movie crew members are jumping for joy, fans of Fox who like seeing her in mens magazines like MAXIM are in shock.

MEGAN FOX FIRED FROM TRANSFORMERS 3

MSNBC writes:

Megan Fox has been axed from “Transformers 3,” Access Hollywood has confirmed.

A source at Paramount, the studio behind the film, told Access that Fox, who played star Shia LaBeouf’s love interest in the franchise, would not return for the third movie.

The source said that in order to take LaBeouf’s character — Samuel James Witwicky — in a new direction, it was better if Sam wasn’t tied down to a love interest.

HISTORY OF MEGAN FOX RISE TO FAME AND PERSONALITY

Fox reportedly got the role in Transformers 1 by washing Michael Day's Ferrari. She rose to fame with her cameo appearances running and screaming in Transformers 2.

The heavily tattooed starlet has been compared to Angelina Jolie but without talent. While beautiful, she is reported to be ill tempered, not a very good actress, and her looks are primarily credited to extensive plastic surgery (which she had while still a teenager in order to make her mark in Hollywood).

Fox claims she has no problem using sex to get what she wants, including more fame and attention. She also admits mild schizophrenia, boor diet and fitness habits, and that she regularly fights with her boyfriend — 90210 star Brian Austin Green.

Note: Fox says she is bi-sexual and that she has a partially open relationship with Green, claiming she is open to sleep with other men and women, while Green remains monogamous.

Has her nasty vixen personna finally cost her a leading lady role?

We think so.

Well, there's that and her spreading nasty rumors about Michael Bay while speaking in public. It's never good to humiliate your company leader or boss when you are bucking for a promotion (no matter how good a buck you think you can offer).

MEGAN FOX MODELING ARMANI UNDERWEAR

Notice the fashion designer elected to airbrush out her tattoos, including the

celebrity portrait tattoo of Marilyn Monroe on her forearm.

What do you think — will the movie be better off without Megan Fox — an actress the cast, crew, and producer Michael Bay have all struggled working with due to her rumored horrible attitude on set? Sound off in the comments section below.

Facebook users have been threatening a mass defection in recent weeks over privacy concerns. Yesterday MySpace jumped ahead of its bigger competitor with a public promise to simplify and improve its own privacy features.

"We believe users want a simpler way to control their privacy," wrote  Mike Jones, Co-President of MySpace. on the company's blog. "That’s why, in the coming weeks, MySpace will continue to simplify its privacy settings to create a simpler, more intuitive approach that gives users greater control over their information."

New options will include settings for public, friends only, or public access to anyone 18 or over.  In making this change, MySpace will also default the setting to “friends only” for any user who previously had any granular page setting to “friends only.”

WaTunes: EMI’s New Challenge: $365 Million Due Pension Fund

Source: Hypebot

image from www2.jpscotland.co.ukJust when EMI looked like it had found a  little breathing room, comes a new challenge. The UK Pension Regulator  may force the indebted label group to fund a $365 million (£250 million) shortfall in its pension fund. The fund covers 22,000 members, with  just 500 still working and contributing  It has about $1.3 billion (£900m) in assets.

EMI is saying that the deficit is much closer to $15 million. But a recent accounting by EMI's hown olding company Maltby Capital Ltd. admitted a deficit of between $15 million and $292 million (£10m to £200m). They claim the wide range of the estimate is the result of different actuaries using a variety of methodologies.

WaTunes: Ted Cohen advising Hans Pandeya on Pirate Bay deal

Source: Music Ally

He may have fallen out spectacularly with former advisor Wayne Rosso last year, but Hans Pandeya now has a new consultant to help him try to buy The Pirate Bay.

According to Wired, Pandeya has recently retained the services of TAG Strategic’s Ted Cohen, who says that plans to take The Pirate Bay legit aren’t as crazy as has been claimed.

“Ten years ago, I went through this [with Napster] — there should be a way to pull this off,” he tells Wired. “If the industry wasn’t ready ten years ago , I think they are possibly ready for it now. I don’t think it’s a fool’s quest.”

However, the question is less about whether the labels would accept a legal P2P service now, and more about whether The Pirate Bay is the brand to do it with – and indeed whether Pandeya is the man to lead such a venture.

WaTunes: Sony Music says eyeing EMI: report

Source: Reuters

"We are in a position that allows us to seize every opportunity in the market – including EMI," the head of Sony Music, Rolf Schmidt-Holz, was quoted as saying by German Sunday paper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.

EMI's owner, buyout firm Terra Firma, is asking investors for 360 million pounds ($557 million) for the British music company to prevent the investment from falling into lenders' hands, a source told Reuters last month.

EMI, home of artists like the Beatles and Coldplay, tried but failed to agree a licensing deal for its North American rights in March after holding talks with Sony Music and Universal Music Group.

Warner Music Chief Executive Edgar Bronfman on Thursday declined to comment on speculation that the U.S. music company was eyeing assets of EMI.

The head of BMG, the music venture owned by Bertelsmann and KKR, told the Financial Times last week BMG would not bid for EMI in the near term, even though it was seeking to replicate the success of its U.S. deal-making in the Britain.

The world's largest music company Universal owned by Vivendi, said in March it was not holding talks with Terra Firma about a deal for EMI,
